In September 2019, reports of a mysterious respiratory illness related to e-cigarettes and vaporizers began receiving widespread attention in the United States. As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began investigating the epidemic—later labeled EVALI (E-cigarettes or Vaping product use Associated Lung Injury)—it issued strongly worded, histrionic warnings to the public to the tune of “Stop using all vape products!”
Of course, that also implied people should stop purchasing vape products.
And stop they did.
According to data from BDS Analytics, vape sales plummeted nearly 30 percent from Labor Day 2019 through the end of November 2019.
