DENVER—The agenda for the 2017 Cannabis Sustainability Symposium has been released. The conference is scheduled for Oct 17-18, at the Embassy Suites located in downtown Denver.
This year’s event focuses on “the latest tools, techniques, and technologies for efficient and safe cannabis production” with a packed double-track seminar schedule. Presented by the Cannabis Certification Council (CCC), in collaboration with Denver Environmental Health.
We asked how important sustainable practices and policy would be to the industry going forward.
“In less than a decade, the cannabis industry went from nonexistent—operating in the dark—to working within a legal framework. With the advent of the regulated market, cannabis cultivators, and ancillary businesses have benefited tremendously from innovations and technologies that have made operations more sustainable and efficient,” said Amy Andrie, co-founder of the CCC and co-owner of L’Eagle dispensary, located in Denver.
“Many of the business pioneers in the first states to legalize want to set a high standard for other markets coming online while also shedding the stigmas long attached to marijuana. Demonstrating simple, eco-conscious business policies and implementing innovative sustainable technologies positions cannabis businesses as assets to their communities,” Andrie added.,
The Symposium keynote address will be delivered by David Bronner, prominent drug policy reform advocate and Cosmic Engagement Officer of Dr. Bronner’s, a well-known soap brand in the U.S and sustainable practices pioneer.
“We’re looking forward to taking a deeper dive into environmental and social sustainability topics at this year’s expanded symposium,” said Ashley Preece, Executive Director of the CCC in a press release. “The expertise of the speakers will appeal to a variety of industry members, from facility operators to CEOs.”
Experts from across the U.S. will speak at the event, including: Derek Smith, Founder and Executive Director of the Resource Innovation Institute, Shelley Peterson, VP of Lighting Technologies at urban-gro, and Dr. Elizabeth A. Bennett, Assistant Professor of International Affairs and the Director of the Political Economy Program at Lewis & Clark College.
