JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The City of Jamestown and its municipal utility company, the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) announced today an appeal to commercial cannabis businesses, highlighting Jamestown’s unique competitive and comparative advantages. This includes, but is not limited to, cultivators, processors, co-operative licenses and incubator programs. The City provides affordable power and water, multiple potential locations, and a welcoming community with a capable workforce for commercial cannabis grow operations to open facilities.
With the recent passage of legislation, recreational cannabis use is now legal in the state of New York. As the newly established Office of Cannabis Management implements a comprehensive regulatory framework that covers medical, adult-use and cannabinoid hemp, Jamestown is seeking new businesses interested in grow operations and production.
Jamestown is the ideal place for a cannabis-based business with a responsive Municipal Utility providing low-cost electricity and water to all customers, affordably-priced and available facilities from 10,000 sq. ft. to 150,000 sq. ft. Jamestown boasts an excellent quality of life, business-friendly administration of both the City and the BPU that will work to help businesses succeed, all in a prime location in one of the largest cannabis markets in the world.
In a statement, Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist said, “I am excited to be among the first municipalities in the State of New York to welcome commercial growers to open up shop. With some of the cheapest utility costs in the state, affordable
facilities that range in size from small to massive, in a growing new market, we are uniquely positioned to be a hub for the growth of cannabis. This is a budding industry that is only getting larger as more states legalize recreational cannabis. I believe that because of Jamestown’s advantages, this is an area that can be a center of commercial growing and can help be a catalyst for further economic growth. Both the City and BPU fully support finding qualified companies willing to be a part of Jamestown and the wonderful community we have here.”
The City of Jamestown is nestled between Lake Erie and Allegheny National Forest. This vibrant community serves as the center of a greater metropolitan area of more than 70,000 residents and is located right on a US Interstate with access to multiple major metropolitan areas. The City is committed to fostering a business friendly environment and will work to encourage business growth with supportive zoning ordinances and work to prevent bottlenecks.
