The “Grease” star has opened up about medicating with marijuana in her battle against breast cancer.
Grammy award winning Olivia Newton-John is well known for her music career as well as for her lead role in “Grease.” But she is also well-known for her work in raising cancer awareness and has recently become an advocate for medical marijuana.
Newton-John is currently using medical marijuana to fight back against her second battle with breast cancer. She now plans on publically advocating for medical marijuana while raising money for her cancer research institute.
Newton-John lives in California where medical marijuana is legal. Unfortunately, safe access is not a guarantee everywhere.
“I will do what I can to encourage it. It’s an important part of treatment, and it should be available,” Newton-John told News Corp. Australia.
“I use medicinal cannabis, which is really important for pain and healing,” she said. “It’s a plant that has been maligned for so long, and has so many abilities to heal.”
In May, she announced that her cancer had returned and postponed a planned musical tour.
According to Newton-John, she uses medical marijuana in combination with other legal treatments to try and push her cancer back into remission.
Newton-John has been raising cancer awareness for decades and was first diagnosed with the disease in 1992. Her treatment involved a partial mastectomy and chemotherapy. In 2012, she created the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute in Australia.
