From the Office of the Sonoma County District Attorney, Jill Ravitch
Santa Rosa, CA – June 16, 2016 – Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch has issued the following statement in response to a law enforcement raid that occurred on Wednesday June 15, 2016 at multiple locations throughout Sonoma County:
Throughout the last several days my office received information that a large-scale hash oil production facility was operating within Sonoma County with potentially hazardous conditions for employees and neighbors living within proximity to the facility. My understanding is that upon obtaining this information, several Sonoma County law enforcement agencies, in conjunction with multiple federal agencies, initiated searches of a number of buildings and homes for the purpose of continuing their investigation as to whether violations of state and/or federal law have occurred.
My focus at this time is to determine whether any laws have been violated which would endanger public safety or the environment. I am particularly concerned as to whether there have been violations of the state law regarding the proper storage and removal of hazardous and volatile waste, and unsafe working conditions.
I would like to underscore that I support the right of the People of Sonoma County to use medical cannabis. I also support the right of those who are properly credentialed to produce medical cannabis. However, the District Attorney’s primary responsibility is public safety and enforcement of the law. We will continue to work alongside the U. S Attorney’s Office to review all relevant information moving forward as to the nature and scope of the operation that was the target of this investigation.
