DENVER – In what Carl’s Jr. told MSN.com is more than a one-day stunt, the fast-food chain plans to test launch a CBD-infused burger in celebration of 4/20. The sandwich, aptly named the Rocky Mountain High: CheeseBurger Delight, will be available for one day at a single location in Denver, Colorado. Data from the test launch will be used to determine whether the burger will become a regular menu item.
Carl’s Jr. announced the release on its corporate Twitter account early Wednesday, saying “4/20 only: We’re dropping our Rocky Mountain High Cheese Burger Delight with CBD-infused Santa Fe sauce at one Denver location only. #rockymountainhigh.” The news was met with both enthusiasm and disdain as dozens of commenters voiced their opinions.
According to MSN.com, Patty Trevino, Carl’s Jr.’s senior vice president of brand marketing said the company has been working on the CBD Burger since early January when it launched the Beyond Meat vegan burger.
In a separate interview, Trevino told CNN.com, “I was sitting down with our head chef Owen Klein, and we were talking about trends [after the Beyond Meat launch.] We looked at ourselves and said, you know what, let’s try [a CBD product.]”
Carl’s Jr. has partnered with Colorado-based, hemp extract and CBD oil manufacturer Bluebird Botanicals for the test.
The Rocky Mountain High: CheeseBurger Delight will be available at Carl’s Jr.’s 4050 Colorado Blvd location in Denver, Colorado on April 20, 2019 at 6 a.m., until sold out.
