A Golden State Partners with the ACLU Foundation of Southern California

LOS ANGELES A Golden State, the California-based premium cannabis flower brand, today announced a partnership with the ACLU Foundation of Southern California (ACLU SoCal) which will benefit ACLU SoCal’s efforts to raise awareness regarding voter rights, criminal justice, and drug policy reform. The brand will donate 3% of sales to ACLU SoCal’s efforts from every jar (one-eighth of an ounce) of A Golden State flower sold starting on Monday, October 5th (California’s first day of vote-by-mail) through Tuesday, November 3rd (Election Day). Additionally, A Golden State’s staff will offer their time to assist the ACLU’s virtual outreach program to raise awareness surrounding voter suppression and answer questions about voting rights, deadlines and locations.

“Social justice, inclusivity, and diversity are at the heart of A Golden State’s core values. Our priorities go beyond the election, we’re a brand committed to making real change,” said Nishant Reddy, Co-Founder and CEO of A Golden State. “The absurd amount of unnecessary, non-violent, cannabis-related arrests and incarcerations across the US must be addressed, as a brand we are committed to help reform drug policies to correct these unwarranted actions. Working with ACLU SoCal was an obvious decision to help bring additional attention to these important causes. We hope for this to be the first of many collaborations with them.”

As one of the only cannabis brands with BIPOC leaders, A Golden State believes giving back to the at-risk communities specifically in their home state of California and making them aware of their rights is vital. Voter suppression is one of the biggest civil liberties at risk this election, and A Golden State feels strongly about educating voters on the dos and don’t of voting, particularly during a pandemic.

“At this perilous time for the civil rights and liberties we cherish, the support of companies like A Golden State is crucial to the work of the ACLU of Southern California,” said Marcus Benigno, Chief Communications & Marketing Officer at the ACLU SoCal. “We are heartened and greatly appreciative to have A Golden State — a California company — as a supporter.”

In addition to proceeds being donated to the ACLU, A Golden State is committing paid staff hours to be repurposed to volunteer for ACLU SoCal working the phones beginning October 5th leading up to Election Day, November 3rd. A Golden State will also be introduced as a sponsor for the ACLU SoCal’s annual gala that takes place virtually this Sunday, October 4th.

ABOUT A GOLDEN STATE
A Golden State was born in Northern California under the watch of the Cascade Mountains. What started from humble beginnings, long before the cannabis renaissance, has blossomed into one of California’s leaders in high quality cannabis flower. Our operation is forward thinking and technically progressive, but our cultivation style remains true to our roots. We water our plants with snowmelt which trickles down from Mount Shasta, and we grow in natural soil derived from coconut hulls, yielding consistently premium flower. Our knowledge as cultivators and connoisseurs has led us to produce highly distinct cannabis strains, each created for recreation, relaxation, sharing with friends, unwinding solo, or finding the right head space for enjoyment. A GOLDEN STATE is not a brand or place, it’s a state of being.
