MENANDS, NY — Certified Testing & Data, a cannabis and hemp testing lab, launched Cannaleptic Rating, the Wine Score of cannabis to qualify and certify products. Combining a thorough, science-backed product characterization and consumer consensus, Cannaleptic Rating creates a product score that allows consumers to easily understand and compare product quality.
Historically, potency, or the concentration of THC, has been the exclusive “grade” given to cannabis products. But potency alone is a deficient and one-dimensional way to analyze such a complex plant. As the industry matures and more consumers with limited experience embrace cannabis, a better and standardized method to review cannabis products is necessary.
The Cannaleptic Rating integrates quantitative testing results with qualitative consumer responses and utilizes a proprietary algorithm to generate a Cannaleptic score. The resulting score (on a 100-point scale) takes aroma, effects, appearance, and taste into consideration, along with potency, terpenes, and an analysis of potential containments.

The Cannaleptic Rating is being piloted in New York and can currently be found on products from Florist Farms, Foy, Heavy Hitters, Jaunty, Soft Power Sweets, and Umamii, with more brands joining and plans to expand to additional legal markets.
