MESQUITE, Nevada – Deep Roots Harvest customers across the state reached into home pantries and grocery store shelves during the 2024 holiday season to donate more nearly 5,000 pounds of food to needy Nevada families as part of Deep Roots Harvest’s Second Annual Season of Giving Food Drive to benefit hunger organizations across the state. As a reward for their generosity, for every six cans of food donated participants received the opportunity to purchase one of two specially selected products for one cent.

The weeks-long effort netted thousands of canned goods for needy Nevadans totaling more than 4,698 pounds of food. Donations were distributed to three organizations across the state serving those in need during the holiday season, including Three Square Food Bank in Las Vegas, the Parade of Lights benefitting the Salvation Army in Mesquite, and the JAS Foundation Senior Center and Food Pantry in Wendover.

“Once again, our customers demonstrated why we are so lucky to live in this great state of Nevada,” said Jon Marshall, chief operating officer of Deep Roots Harvest. “People really enjoy giving what they can, and our team is thrilled to interact with folks as they bring in their canned goods. It’s a great way to keep spirits high throughout the month while doing something truly needed in the community. We are grateful for the opportunity to help.”

The following organizations benefited from 2024’s annual food drive.

JAS Senior Center

The JAS Foundation is the leading source of assistance for senior citizens and underserved communities in Wendover. In 2013, a Senior Center was established as a communal place for seniors to socialize and enjoy lunch daily. Today, the center provides community meals for seniors, as well as home-delivered meals for those in need. In 2014, the JAS Foundation became the home of Joseph’s Food Pantry, which currently helps feed more than 650 households per month.

“We are so grateful for the ongoing support of Deep Roots Harvest and their amazing customers,” said Jasie Holm, president of the JAS Foundation. “Our work depends on the kindness of others, and we are so appreciative of the never-ending care and support we receive from the Deep Roots Harvest community.”

Mesquite Parade of Lights/Salvation Army Mesquite Service Center

The Parade of Lights was created in 2015 to celebrate the Christmas holiday season twofold: to enjoy the lights and to give to those who are less fortunate. The event has grown to become Mesquite’s largest canned food drive, raising an impressive 21,788.9 pounds of food in 2024. The donations support The Salvation Army Mesquite Service Center, which provides a variety of assistance to Mesquite area residents.

“The Parade of Lights helps to brighten the holidays for the Mesquite community,” said Deborah Benham, president of the Parade of Lights Corp. “And the canned goods donated by Deep Roots Harvest customers help to spread that light throughout the area to improve the holidays for hundreds. We are forever grateful for this annual food drive.”

Three Square Food Bank

Three Square is a Las Vegas-based nonprofit that works to provide wholesome food to hungry people in Lincoln, Nye, Esmeralda and Clark counties.

“The holiday season is a time of celebration and togetherness, but for many in our community, it can also bring uncertainty,” said Beth Martino, president and CEO of Three Square. “Thanks to the incredible generosity of Deep Roots Harvest and its customers, more of our neighbors had access to the nutritious food they needed during a meaningful time of year. We are deeply grateful for their support in helping us serve the one in seven Southern Nevadans facing hunger. Together, we are making a real difference.”
