PAX to Host 2nd Annual Day of Peace Plastic Cleanup Events

PAX Day of Peace Plastic Cleanup events

SAN FRANCISCO — PAX, a leading global cannabis brand, announced its second annual Day of Peace, a community day of service, taking place on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. As an extension of the brand’s ongoing environmental sustainability commitment to help address the plastic waste crisis, this year’s event will feature Community Plastic Cleanup events at beaches and in parks in five markets, including Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, Manhattan and San Francisco.

“We are thrilled to host our second annual Day of Peace volunteer event, taking small steps to help combat plastic waste across the communities where we live and work,” said Laura Fogelman, VP of Communications & Public Affairs at PAX. “Make no mistake that we are facing a plastic waste crisis. With less than 9% of plastics recycled globally, we have an urgent responsibility to be good stewards of our planet and address the plastics lifecycle. PAX is proud to bring our extended cannabis community together for a day of action, and to help raise broader awareness around this important issue.”

65 million pounds of plastic will be generated in the next 60 minutes—a staggering 385 million tons per year, which is expected to double by 2040. Approximately 8 million tons of plastic waste enter the oceans each year and, by 2050, it is estimated that there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Plastics can take nearly 400 years to decompose, and it breaks down into microplastics which have been found in every corner of the world, posing potential health risks to humans and wildlife.

Day of Peace participating partners include Bliss & Lex, Bud’s Goods and Provisions, Chronic Culture, Coastsweep, Conbud, Culture House, Denver Park Trust, Elevate Soho, Emerald Fields, Erba, Fig Trees, Fine Fettle, Good Chemistry, Gotham, Housing Works, Igadi, KSS Sales, Lightshade, Lova, Native Roots, Native Sun, New Dia, Oasis, Starbuds, The Cannabist Company, The Goods, The Green Goddess, The Travel Agency, The Woods, Urbana, Verdi, and Verilife.

PAX is also partnering with Togetherland, a Public Benefit Corporation, on sustainable participant swag for the event. Established in 2013 and known for their original hyper-real prints nodding to the beauty of nature, Togetherland collaborates with artists, brands and musicians that share a vision for a healthy planet and fashion industry through their Wasteless Manufacturing Platform.

PAX’s Day of Peace annual service day is part of PEACE BY PAX, the brand’s social impact platform dedicated to causes of social reform, safe access and sustainability.

In April, PAX announced its achievement of Plastic Negative certification across all product lines through a partnership with rePurpose Global. This milestone ensures that for every PAX product sold, twice as much plastic waste is removed from nature through rePurpose Global’s impact programs. PAX also recently launched the PAX TRIP, the first plastic negative all-in-one, made from ocean bound plastic.
