“Unprecedented” was the byword of 2020, with events shaking the foundations of life as we know it, much less the holidays. So, it’s hard to predict if the 2020 holiday retail season will be naughty or nice to retailers.
In September, marketing data research firm Deloitte reported U.S. holiday retail sales should rise 1 percent to 1.5 percent, from $1.1 trillion in 2019 to $1.147 trillion, between November and January 2021. This, despite lower household budgets, the report said.
“Price, product, and convenience remain top of mind for consumers,” Deloitte added.
This year, average holiday shoppers are trimming trees, turkeys, and budgets. The report indicated consumers will be cutting back on “spending, in-store purchases, travel and experiences, and time spent shopping.”
Deloitte’s report summarized a spike in sales could depend on whether wealthy consumers decide to splurge on holiday spending.
Cannabis retailers with faithful in-store clientele have the advantage of being able to create holiday displays and promotions that won’t be available from other retailers this year—and absolutely every shopper is looking for a reason to smile and some extra holiday spirit. They’re also looking for good deals.
So, let the Santa-capped budtenders deck the dispensaries with care,
With dreams of cool customers that soon will be there,
Trim a tree that smells of terpenes, so frosty and white,
With a big selection of stocking stuffers—not so costly, but bright!
Spread joy with giveaways, fancy displays, and fun,
And let’s all get happy ‘cause 2020 soon will be done!
