West Monroe, La- Denver Broncos wide receiver Carlos Henderson was arrested for marijuana in West Monroe, Louisiana on Sunday. Henderson was riding as a passenger in an SUV that was pulled over for speeding on Interstate 20 heading east.
According to Detective Ray Spoon, the officer who arrested Henderson, the vehicle smelled of marijuana. Henderson admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day but both he and driver Alexandra Aviles-Jimenez claimed they did not have any marijuana in the vehicle. Reports indicate that officers found pieces of what they suspected to be raw marijuana on the floor of the vehicle. Additionally, officers found what they thought was a marijuana cigar, or blunt, inside of a water bottle.
“We are aware of the issue involving Carlos Henderson and are gathering more information,” the Broncos said in a statement issued Sunday night.
Henderson was placed on injured reserve this year and did not play in his rookie season. As a college player at Louisiana Tech University, Henderson enjoyed a great deal of success. He won the 2016 Conference USA Player Of The Year Award in 2016 and led all of college football with 19 touchdown receptions. He was drafted in the third round by the Denver Broncos.
