Former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson may be known as one of the greatest fighters of all time, but he is now trying to reign as the champion of a new industry.
Tyson, now the chief executive officer of Tyson Ranch, runs a cannabis company that operates in multiple states including California and Nevada. But don’t expect the cannabis executive to go all corporate in his new role. Just like during his fighting days, Tyson has been known to make some head-scratching claims. His newest one, revealed during an episode of his podcast Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, described his cannabis use.
“What do we smoke a month?” Tyson asked his co-host, Eben Britton, before finishing his thought. “It’s about $40,000 a month.”
Britton converted the price tag into a physical measurement, but the claim is still staggering. “We smoke ten tons of weed on the ranch a month,” Britton said.
Tyson went on to say his company is selling about $500,000 in cannabis per month, making the habit possibly affordable, even if not entirely believable.
Tyson Ranch focuses on producing clean cannabis that is free of pesticides and other impurities. According to the company, all cannabis flower grown by Tyson Ranch is rigorously lab tested and entirely trimmed by hand. They even produce their own exclusive strains including “KO Kush.” Tyson Ranch also produces concentrates and will offer a line of edible products in the future.
The inclusion of the name “Ranch” in the company’s name is not simply a novelty. Tyson has plans for an elaborate cannabis resort that will span 40 acres in California’s Mojave Desert, approximately 110 miles north of Los Angeles. The resort will feature 20 acres for cannabis cultivators to develop new strains. The property also will include an edibles factory, amphitheater, an upscale “glamping” area, and educational resources for aspiring cannabis growers. Artist renderings on TysonRanch.com also depict a large pool for guests to enjoy.
