Rasheed Wallace has come out in defense of Zach Randolf after he was arrested for marijuana possession.

Former NBA star Rasheed Wallace was never been shy about sharing his opinion during his playing career. It does not seem like that has changed since his retirement from professional basketball.

Recently, current NBA player Zach Randolph was arrested for marijuana possession in Los Angeles. Randolf had approximately two pounds of marijuana on him when he was arrested. He is also being charged with intent to distribute.

Wallace does not feel that Randolph was looking to sell any of his stash. “I know for a fact, he ain’t no dope dealer,” Wallace told TMZ Sports.

Wallace and Randolph were teammates on the Portland Trailblazers from 2001-2004. Randolph played for the Memphis Grizzlies for the past eight seasons. He enjoyed a very successful tenure there and made two All-Star appearances during his time in Memphis. This year, he signed on to play for the Sacremento Kings after signing a two-year deal.

Randolph was freed after making his $20,000 bail. But even if he is able to mitigate his legal troubles, Randolph likely faces discipline from the NBA.

The NBA still has a strict policy against players using or medicating with marijuana. Recently, Commissioner Adam Silver declined to make changes to the league’s current marijuana policy. Silver, while considered the most progressive minded professional sports commissioner, felt that players traveling with marijuana could pose major problems for players.

It is unclear if the 36-year-old Randolph will be permitted to play as soon as the NBA season begins in November.
