DENVER –
Native Roots Cannabis Co., Colorado’s premier dispensary chain, recently hosted its annual charity golf tournament, securing an $86,400 donation to help the Last Prisoner Project (LPP) continue its efforts to free those imprisoned on cannabis charges, as well as repair the harms of the discriminatory criminal justice practices of the War on Drugs. The golf tournament raised $43,200 and was doubled by cannabis technology platform Dutchie, which matches donations to LPP.
“We are incredibly grateful for all who turned out to help support the incredible work of the Last Prisoner Project, whose efforts will never be complete until every last unfairly imprisoned person is released,” said Buck Dutton, Vice President of Marketing at Native Roots Cannabis Co. “As members of the cannabis industry, we have a responsibility to try and make things right with regard to the unjustified imprisonment of thousands of people over cannabis charges that are no longer illegal today. We thank the great folks at Dutchie for matching our donation, and are so grateful to the Last Prisoner Project for their ongoing work.”
According to the Last Prisoner Project, nearly 16 million Americans have been arrested for marijuana charges over the last two decades – and thousands are currently imprisoned on charges that are no longer illegal in most U.S. states. The nonprofit organization works to effect change by direct legal intervention, constituent support, advocacy campaigns and working for policy change.
