The Year of Lord Jones

“We make great efforts to ensure Lord Jones products deliver best-in-class results on all three fronts: visual appeal, unsurpassed taste, and cannabis superiority.”—Robert Rosenheck

According to founder Robert Rosenheck, the secret to Lord Jones’s success will be simple: “Make the best product and get the word out. Hype can help sell products once. Great word of mouth and repeat customers are built from great products.”

Rosenheck may have launched his fleur de sel caramels only in November 2015, but he’s always been a cannabis enthusiast. However, when he began frequenting dispensaries after moving from New York to California sixteen years ago, he noticed something: Most products were unlabeled or mislabeled and looked as if they were thrown together in someone’s home kitchen. “I was always nervous about what I was getting,” he remembered. “This was one of the main inspirations behind Lord Jones: to develop products that were safe, reliable, clearly labeled, easy to use, and delivered consistency.”

Each caramel is handmade: pure vanilla bean and butter, sugar, cream, sea salt, Ecuadorian dark chocolate and, of course, solvent-free cannabis extract. The sweets are delivered in a petite orange box adorned with sketches of reindeer, crowns and eagles—designed by Rosenheck and Sharon Werner of Werner Design Works—with the inscription, “For Your Royal Highness.”

Rosenheck, based in Los Angeles, shared his new creations with only the top dispensaries—and each one bit. “The reaction has been tremendous,” he noted. (The company has plans to launch in Washington State and Colorado in the spring.)

LJboxesAt a time when the buzzwords in the edible category increasingly are “elevated brand experience,” “sophisticated packaging,” “gourmet,” and “highest-quality cannabis extract,” Lord Jones seems well positioned—and then some. “Many edible manufacturers test the input but do not test the final product, which does not account for any burn-off during heating,” said Rosenheck. “Our concentrates are tested for potency before cooking and after, to guarantee consistent dosage. We make great efforts to ensure Lord Jones products deliver best-in-class results on all three fronts: visual appeal, unsurpassed taste, and cannabis superiority.”

With the successful launch of the caramels, Rosenheck is to bring his an all-natural, old-fashioned gumdrop line—colored and flavored with imported French fruit essences—to market in February. In fact, 2016 very well could be the Year of Lord Jones if Rosenheck has his way.

“We will be introducing new product categories every thirty to sixty days throughout the year,” he said.
