The second Los Angeles Cannabis Career & Job Fair, hosted by Bloom Farms, drew a lively crowd of businesses and job seekers this past Sunday, March 19. Traffic snarls related to the L.A. Marathon didn’t keep people away from the event, which was held in Hollywood between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

“We’ve done several of these,” Bloom Farm founder Mike Ray told us. “The first time we did L.A., we had about 1,000 people, and at other fairs we’ve had long lines. The cannabis industry is evolving quickly, and now we find not as many applicants, but the quality of job seekers’ skills has improved. People are really interested in and excited about cannabis, and they want to get in the industry.”

Exhibitors included Indus (Altai Brands), Strain/Balboa Caregivers, BSE Collective, Utopia Farms, Upside Edibles, and Grower’s Choice lighting, 831 Organiks, Eaze.com, Bloom Farms and mg magazine and mgmagazine.com. A line of job seekers formed early and crowded the venue throughout the day.

Holding up a fat folder of resumes, Owen with Eaze.com was excited with the response from fair attendees. “[The folder] is full and we’ve seen a lot of people, so I’m stoked.”

A delivery service based in San Francisco and recently established in San Jose, Ease has its sights set on Los Angeles next. Owen said that especially since the passage of Measure M, the job fair offered a great opportunity for the company to start looking for local drivers – but added they were in need also of brand ambassadors and other admin positions. “We’re expanding into the two biggest markets in the state, so we’re growing fast and it’s good to come down here and meet people.”

Job seekers appeared to include applicants of all ages (I.D. was required for the over-18 event) and formed a diverse, lively crowd; dozens of conversations soon filled the room with sound.

“We’re looking for sales positions and admin,” said Justin Kwan, account manager with Grower’s Choice, who were first-time exhibitors. “So we thought we’d give this a try.”
