Police Officer who shot Philando Castile claims he feared for his life after smelling marijuana.
The propaganda machine against marijuana has delivered a long list of outrageous claims over the years. Unfortunately, a police officer involved in the tragic shooting of Philando Castile has added a real head scratcher to the list.
With the dashcam video of the dramatic shooting being released this week, Officer Jeronimo Yanez has faced renewed criticism for his actions, even after being acquitted of criminal charges.
“I thought, I was gonna die,” Officer Jeronimo Yanez told investigators according to the Washington Post. “And I thought if he’s, if he has the, the guts and the audacity to smoke marijuana in front of the five-year-old girl and risk her lungs and risk her life by giving her secondhand smoke and the front seat passenger doing the same thing then what, what care does he give about me. And, I let off the rounds and then after the rounds were off, the little girls was screaming.”
The excuse is a bit hard to believe. Research has shown that marijuana tends to decrease aggressive behavior. With close to 90 percent of the public supporting medical marijuana, it seems the general public does not believe marijuana is likely to cause aggressive behavior.
Yanez’s logic suggests that if someone smokes near their family then they must have zero regard for human life. While most would agree that second-hand smoke is not healthy, would an officer use the same logic and gun down a cigarette smoker in their own car?
