8 Cannabis Extraction Machines Turning Flower Into Gold

Demand for concentrated cannabis as a finished product and manufacturing input continues to boom with no indications of changing course. Products like shatter, wax, rosin, vape carts, beverages, and edibles all require the skilled extraction of cannabinoids and terpenes. With a domestic cannabis market expected to reach $45 billion by the end of 2025, there’s still plenty of time for brands to cash in.

Producing extracts is far from a new science. Everything from olive oil to commercial flavor additives has undergone exposure to extreme temperatures and pressure to satisfy market demand. Whether opting for hydrocarbon, ice water, or short-path distillation, each extraction technique comes with its own set of pros and cons.

Hydrocarbon extraction has long been used for the creation of essential oils, making it easy to adopt for operators producing CBD and THC vape oil at scale. However, many consumers and brands would prefer to avoid dealing with solvents like butane and propane. Ice water processing may take more time and effort to perfect, but the ability to turn plant material into rosin often commands a premium price tag.

Here are some of the latest and greatest cannabis extraction machines, along with some old favorites for boutique cultivators and vertically integrated operators to implement in 2025.

Low Temp Industries Mini Osprey

Mini Osprey™ - 30 Gallon Home Washing Machine

The Mini Osprey is the latest machine from solventless darlings Low Temp Industries. The company released the Mini version of its popular Osprey to ensure craft producers can wash material like pros regardless of space constraints. A 30-gallon vessel can process up to 9,000 grams of fresh-frozen or 2,200 grams of dry plant material per wash. The Mini Osprey also has a patent-pending Flo-Tex agitation system that utilizes a low-shear impeller in a rounded square vessel designed to extract the maximum trichomes possible per wash without damaging delicate compounds in the process.

Sambo Creek Separatore Tribostatico

An innovative entry on the list, the Separatore Tribostatico by Sambo Creek harnesses the power of static electricity to separate trichomes from plant material. The cold plasma technology uses compressed air to move the trichomes into the collection tray, processing up to 400 grams of finished product per hour. Spent material can be used in solvent extraction machines to maximize returns. As an additional cost benefit, the Separatore Tribostatico may qualify for energy tax credits in certain states thanks to its environmentally friendly extraction process.

FAQ

What’s the best method for THC extraction?

The best method to extract cannabis oil depends on your post-extraction goals or what type of cannabis extract you wish to make. If you’re creating distillate for edibles, short-path systems are great. For premium full-spectrum extraction, including rosin products, solventless washing systems are considered the best. Decide what products you’ll produce first, and then you can determine the best extraction for your needs.

Is 100 hot enough to extract THC?

Decarboxylation of cannabinoids occurs at 220 degrees Fahrenheit. This is when raw THCA converts to THC. However, some solventless extraction is done at ultra-low temperatures to keep the trichomes intact. This type of THC extract needs to be decarbed before it produces psychoactive effects, regardless of the THC concentration.

How hot does THC need oil to extract?

For cannabis oil extraction, heat the material between 200 and 220 degrees Fahrenheit. This will convert the acid form of THCA to THC, ensuring the final extract is potent and effective. The boiling point of THC is around 311 to 315 degrees Fahrenheit, while the boiling point of cannabidiol (CBD) is a tad higher at 320 to 356 degrees Fahrenheit.
